When Child Abuse Hits Close to Home

Okay, so this isn't a fun post or entertaining even like my past ones. Trust me, I wish it was. I wish this was a bad dream and that people like this didn't exist.

This is actually a re post of a note on my facebook about child abuse. If you'd like you can read it HERE on Facebook.

The only thing that has been changed for my blog is I removed my child and boyfriend's names. This refers to them as "H" and "L".

When child abuse hits close to home...

H and I went to pick L up from daycare yesterday afternoon (Sugar and Spice Preschool). We opened up the door and the first thing we heard was L screaming. Not temper tantrum screaming, not whining. Terrified screaming for her parents. We hurried down the hall to her classroom and popped our heads in. The aides looked at us with 'oh shit' faces while we scanned the class for her. She wasn't in there with the other children. My child was locked in the room across the hall, in a room with NO lights on, BY HERSELF...for a 'time out'.

One aide opened the door and my child was curled against the door sobbing. Her face was completely red and she was shaking in a ball. When she saw us she jumped into my arms and climbed me till she could bury her face in my neck and keep crying. When we asked why she'd been put in time out one of the girls working who we'd never seen before just shouted, "I did it. She wasn't listening," over her shoulder without the common decency to even get up off her ass and come explain to a terrified child's parents why she been shut in a dark room by herself. We looked at the aides and they  literally stepped back, on even putting her hands up in the air as she said "I had no part in this."

We asked L why she was put in time out and she said, "I didn't listen." When asked why she didn't listen she replied, "I don't know her."

Four adults in the building were there witnessing this and not a single one stopped this abuse. Not a single one. Nor did any of them go to their manager who wasn't in the building and ask her to intervene.

There were over a dozen children still in the building who had been forced to sit and watch tv while listening to their friend scream and cry in terror.

Obviously L will NEVER be returning.

H and I both took off work today to meet with the owner. The girl who had out child locked in a dark room for time out is being fired (obviously). The other four adults in the building who didn't bother to step in to help a terrified child who was being abused are being "retrained" and having an emergency meeting tonight. He's contacting me tomorrow morning with more information and a full report on every action that will be taken to ensure this from happening again so that no other child goes through this. I'm horrified and angry beyond belief that this could happen to my child. I will be reporting the incident to the state to ensure that NOTHING like this can happen again and ensure that the owner does keep his word on making changes.

I'll update my status to let everyone know what we find out tomorrow.

For anyone with a child in daycare PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE be careful. I am soo shocked that this has happened. Layla has been attending since November and she loved her school and teachers, yet people like this slip through the cracks and are in these classrooms. It really can happen to any child. Please make sure to address with the people that watch your child to make sure that even if something this horrible happens someone would at least stand up for your child and have the common decency to say 'This is wrong and I'm going to do something about it.'

My child is four years old. I thought that when we dropped her off for the day she was safe while we are at work. Yet since no one would have stopped this woman from abusing my child I wonder if I even would have found out if we hadn't arrived when we did. Especially since the slip telling me about L's day yesterday said her day was great.
